Task 1 Buddy, the Red Panda

Buddy and his brother, Rusty, are red pandas. They were born on 15 June 2013 and have lived in their own cage at London Nature Centre since 2015. Wild red pandas live in India, China and other Asian countries, but experts think that there are only about 2,500 still living in the wild.

Luckily, a lot of zoos and wildlife parks around the world are trying to protect the red panda. They have to eat special food called ‘bamboo’ which is difficult to buy, so there are over 50 bamboo plants growing at the Nature Centre for the pandas.

Just a few months after the pandas arrived at the Nature Centre, a terrible thing happened – Buddy got out of the Nature Centre. He was very clever though because he stayed close to home, and away from the traffic on the city’s crowded roads. It took four days for the workers of the Nature Centre to find him!

One of the people who worked at the Nature Centre and who went to look for Buddy was Trudy Andrews. Trudy’s father, Mr Andrews, told her that birds don’t like being too close to animals like red pandas and they’ll make a lot of noise to keep the panda away. He told her to look for Buddy up in the trees. Trudy heard some birds and looked up and saw Buddy there, just like her father explained.

Everyone was very happy when Buddy arrived back safely, especially Rusty! He happily shared some bamboo with his brother, who looked tired and was very hungry.

    Talking about Sport

    Alan

I started playing tennis when I was five years old, but I was never very good at it. My parents really wanted me to do well and paid for me to have lessons outside school, but I always preferred football. I’m good enough to be in a top local team. With tennis, I could never hit the ball where I wanted it to go – it was always too high or too far. Finally, my parents let me stop going to tennis lessons and I’ve spent my time playing football since then.

    Rod

My favourite sport has always been rugby. I’ve tried other sports and I was good at tennis. I won a tennis competition at school and my sports teacher told me that I was an excellent tennis player. But I didn’t enjoy it as much as rugby because I like being part of a team. So I stopped playing tennis when I was about thirteen. My teacher and parents thought I should continue with it, but I preferred rugby.

    Ben

I’ve always played a lot of sport. It’s an important part of my life, and since I left school I do a wide variety of different types of sports – golf, rugby, tennis and football. I’m quite good at all of them, but I can’t really say that I enjoy one of them more than the others. I’m probably best at rugby because I’m a big person, and it is hard to stop me when I’m running fast.

7 Tips for a Tidy Desk(follow the link)

Seven tips for a tidy desk

    1. Only keep things you really need on and near your desk.

Use a tray for any papers you have to read. Have a jar for pens and pencils and have a bin near your desk.

    2. Don’t keep any drinks on your desk.

Go to the kitchen when you want to have a drink or, if you prefer, keep a drink on a small table near your desk.

    3. Reduce the amount of paper that you use.

Try to keep as much information as possible in folders on your computer. Before printing a document, ask yourself, ‘do I really need to read this on paper?’

    4. Scan your notes.

If you have a lot of paper (magazine articles, notes, worksheets, etc.), use a scanner and keep a digital version as a PDF on your computer.

    5. Use your smartphone to take photos of things you need to remember.

For example, take photos of notes to yourself, the name and address of a place you need to visit or diagrams you need to study for school.

    6. Get a noticeboard.

If you really do need to keep small bits of paper, use a noticeboard on the wall. Check it every day and throw old notes in the bin.

    7. Clean your desk at the end of every day.

Choose a time to tidy your desk and do it! If you do it every day, it will only take five minutes and you can start each new day with a clean and tidy space.

Are the sentences true or false?
    1. You should put everything you will possibly need on your desk.

    2. You should only have one pen or pencil.

    3. It's a good idea to have a bin close to your desk.

    4. It's better to keep information on your computer than on paper if possible.

    5. If you have written notes on paper you should type them into the computer.

    6. The camera in your phone can help you remember things.

    7. A noticeboard is a good way to organise bits of paper.

    8. You should clean your desk once a week.

Card 16  Give a talk on a healthy way of life.
    Remember to say:
     -  why it is important to stay healthy
     - what people should / shouldn't do to keep fit and stay healthy

     - if you follow the rules of a healthy way of life

I'd like to give a talk on a healthy way of life. They say, "Good health is above wealth". That is really so because if you stay healthy, you can do a lot of things easily. You can do physical exercises, run, jump, go hiking. You can travel to different countries. You can find a good job. You can enjoy your life. It's very bad for a person to be ill or to suffer from any illness.

To keep fit and stay healthy people should follow some rules. They should get up early and go to bed early. They shoud take regular exercises. They should eat healthy food. They should clean their teeth every morning and every evening. They should wash their hands before they eat. They shouldn't eat fast food or fat food. They shouldn't smoke. They shouldn't drink alcohol.

As for me, I do everything to keep fit and stay healthy. For example, I get up at 6 o'clock in the morning and do my morning exercises. Then I take a cool shower. I usually have a light breakfast. I have some porridge and an apple. They say, "An apple a day keeps the doctor away". After school I go to my volleyball club. In the evening I don't watch much of TV. I go to bed early, at about 10 p.m.

That's all I wanted to say. Thank you for listening

Card 14  Give a talk on the UK.
    Remember to say:
     -  where the UK is situated
      - what languages are spoken in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland

      - what you know about the flag of the UK

I'd like to give a talk on the UK.  The UK is a short name for the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. This country is situated in the British Isles. It consists of four countries which are England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Their capitals are London, Edinburgh, Cardiff and Belfast.

The UK is separated from the continent by the English Channel and the Straits of Dover. The UK  is also washed by the Atlantic Ocean in the north and the North Sea in the east.  Everyone who was born in Britain is British. People from England are English. People from Scotland are Scottish or Scots. People from Wales are Welsh. People from Northern Ireland are Irish.

Everyone in Britain speaks English, but in some parts of Scotland and Wales people speak different languages as well. For example, the Welsh speak Welsh.  The flag of the UK is called the Union Jack. It is made up of three crosses: the cross of St. George (the patron saint of England), the cross of St.Andrew (the patron saint of Scotland) and the cross of St. Patrick (the patron saint of Ireland).

That's all I wanted to say. Thank you for listening.

Card 12 Give a talk about English-speaking countries.
    Remember to say:

     - what English-speaking countries you know
     - what language is the most important international language nowadays

    -  if English is different in different countries. Give examples.
I'd like to tell you about English-speaking countries.
It's not a secret that English has become an international language nowadays. People all over the world speak English. It is the language of sport, business, space,  computers and science. Besides, people will understand you practically everywhere if you speak English. So, you can use English when you travel. I learn English because firstly ..., secondly ..., thirdly ... .
Great Britain, the USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand are English-speaking countries. In these countries people use English as their native language.
English is a bit (a litttle) different in these countries. Different words name the same things. For example, people live in flats in Britain and in apartments in the USA. They eat cookies and candies in the USA but biscuits and sweets in Great Britain. Children go to school in autumn in England and in the fall in America.
To sum up, I want to say that it is very important to know English nowadays.

That's all I wanted to say. thank you for listening!

Card 11  Give a talk about our planet.
    Remember to say:

    -  how many continents there are on the Earth, what they are
    - how many oceans there are on our planet, what they are

     - what country is the largest in the world

I'd like to give a talk about our planet. The planet we live on is the Earth. The Earth is round. There are six continents on the Earth. They are: Eurasia, Australia, Africa, Antarctica, North America and South America. The continents are very large. They are washed by oceans and seas which separate them from each other. There are four oceans. They are: the Pacific Ocean, the Atlantic Ocean, the Arctic Ocean and the Indian Ocean. There are usually many countries on each continent. For example, there are more than 40 countries in Africa, but there is only one large country in Australia. It has got almost the same name as the continent. I'd like to name some countries from each continent: the Russian Federation, (Russia), the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Spain, Italy are in Europe; China, India, Vietnam are in Asia; Canada and the United States are in America; Egypt is an African country.  The largest country in the world is the Russian Federation (Russia). The smallest country is the Vatican. All the countries have interesting people , places, animals and plants.

People of different nationalities live in different countries. They speak different languages. Each country has its national flag, anthem and its own traditions and customs.

That's all I wanted to say. Thank you for listening.

Card 9  Give a talk about the USA.
    Remember to say
    - who discovered America
    - who was the first president of the USA
    - how many states there are in the USA
    - what city is the capital of the USA

I'd like to give a talk about the USA. The USA is a short name for the United States of America or just America. First of all, it is the name of the country. And then "America" is the name of the two continents - North America and South America. These two continents, North and South America, form the part of the world called America.

Christopher Columbus discovered America in 1492 (fourteen -ninety-two). "In fourteen hundred and ninety-two Columbus sailed the ocean blue..." are the lyrics of the song.   But the country - the USA - was formed later  - in the 17 -18th centuries. George Washington played an important part in the country's development. He was the first American president. George Washington was the president from 1789 to 1797. He became one of the "Fathers of the nation".

Nowadays there are fifty states in America. Its capital is Washington, D.C.  It is not the largest city of America, but Washington, D.C. is its political center where the White House and the Capitol are situated. These are the residence and the seat of the American president and the Congress.

This is the end of my talk. Thank you for listening.

Card 7  Give a talk on London.

    Remember to say:
    - if London is a young or an old city
     - what places of interest one can see there
     - which park is the largest

    -   if you would like to visit London, why.

I'd like to give a talk on London. London is the capital of Great Britain. It is its political and business centre. It's an old city. It was built by the Romans two thousand years ago. It was called Londinium. London is the biggest city in Britain.More than seven million people live and work there. The heart of London is the City. Many people work in the City but very few live there. There are a lot of banks and other offices there too. Besides, there are some interesting places there. One of them is the Tower of London. The Tower of London has been a fortress, a palace, a prison and the King's Zoo. Now it is a museum. There are a lot of shops in London. Oxford Street is London's main shopping centre. You can find many old and new beautiful parks in the city. The largest park in London is Hyde Park.  Another important part of London is Westminster. Here you can see the Houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey. Westminster Abbey is the oldest church where  English and British monarchs and famous English writers and scientists are buried.  Trafalgar Square is a famous square. There is a column in the middle of the square. On the top of it there is a figure of Admiral Nelson.  London is the city where you will never get bored. There are lots of theatres, cinemas, shops and museums there.

That's all I wanted to say. Thank you for listening.

Картинки по запросу картинки елка новый год
I'd like to give a talk on Russian holidays. Russian people like holidays very much. They usually celebrate them with a lot of food and presents, they  meet their relatives and friends. Russian people have got a lot of holidays.

Public holidays are Constitution Day, New Year's Day, the International Women's Day, May Day, Victory Day and Russia Day. During these holidays people do not work.

There are religious holidays. They are Christmas and Easter. There are holidays which are also celebrated in other countries. They are Christmas, Easter and New Year's Day.

New Year's Day is the most favourite holiday in Russia. People put up a New Year tree and decorate it with toys and balls.

Our family likes to celebrate New Year's Day. We always put up a New Year tree, decorate it, and prepare a holiday dinner. We buy a lot of presents for our relatives and friends.  We usually have a lot of fun. If the weather is not cold, we often go for a walk and set off fireworks. I really like all our holidays because I do not go to school and get presents.

That's all I wanted to say. Thank you for listening

    I love Russia
карта городов на Волге I'd like to tell about my country.  It's not a secret that Russia is the biggest country in the world. It is situated on two continents: Europe and Asia.In fact, Moscow is the capital of Russia. It was founded in 1147 by Yuri Dolgorukiy. The city is situated on 7 hills.

Everybody knows that Russia is a rich country. There are many mountains, rivers, lakes and forests.
The Volga is the longest river in Russia. There are many beautiful old towns on its banks for example Volgograd, Novgorod, Samara.
Seas and oceans wash Russia in the north, south, east and west.

One of the Russian symbols is the Russian national flag. It is white, blue and red.

Another symbol of Russia is the birch tree.
People sing beautiful songs about this tree.
Tourists from all over the world like to visit Moscow, St Petersburg, Novgorod. These cities are very beautiful and full if interesting places. There are a lot of museums, cathedrals, theatres, cinemas, parks and squares.
That's all I wanted to say. Thank you for listening.

    Card 6 Travelling

    Remember to say:
    -         if you often travel;
    -         what means of travelling you enjoy most;
    -         speak about your last travel

I'd like to tell you about travelling. People like to travel to different places. Some people travel by car. Most people like to travel by plane or by train. I don't think many people travel on foot. The best season for travelling is summer as people have their holidays. Besides, the weather is usually fine. As for me, I travel once (twice, three (four) times a year.I prefer travelling by plane because I think it is the most comfortable way of travelling. It is the fastest one.

My parents and I travelled to Moscow last summer. We went to Moscow from Kemerovo by plane. It took us 4 hours and a half to get there. We stayed at a hotel in Moscow. The hotel was expensive but the room was very comfortable. We went to different places and visited some really famous sights |saits|. I saw Red Square and the Kremlin. I liked it there very much. The trip was fantastic!

That's all I wanted to say. Thank you for listening.

    - why people travel

    - how people can get to different places

     - which way of travelling is the most comfortable, why

People like travelling because, firstly, they want to see other countries and continents, modern cities and old towns. Secondly, people travel just for pleasure . Besides, some people travel to meet different people and practise their English or French.

You can get to Moscow by train, by plane or by car. Some people enjoy hiking. They walk. All ways of travelling have their good and bad sides. For example, travelling by train and car let you enjoy beautiful places. But travelling by train is slower than travelling by plane. And  travelling by plane is more expensive.

As for me, I prefer travelling by plane because I think it is the most comfortable way of travelling. It is the fastest one.

Сard 13 The Earth in Danger

I'd like to tell you about the Earth in danger.
The 22nd of April is Earth Day. In fact, people all over the world think about our planet because the Earth is in danger nowadays. People must protect our planet, animals, birds and plants, keep water clean and the air fresh.
It's not a secret that water is very important for life on the Earth. It is in our oceans, seas, rivers and lakes. But very little water on the Earth is drinkable because it is dirty. It is dangerous to swim in it and to drink it. The air is dirty, too because modern plants and factories send smoke into the air.
Some people's activities do a lot of harm to forests. People cut down a lot of trees and animals lose their homes.
To sum up, I want to say that it is very important to protect life on the Earth. People must do their best to save our planet for the future.

    When Santa Claus Comes
A good time is coming, I wish it were here,
    The very best time in the whole of the year;
I'm counting each day on my fingers and thumbs --
The weeks that must pass before Santa Claus comes.
Then when the first snowflakes begin to come down,
And the wind whistles sharp and the branches are brown,
I'll not mind the cold, though my fingers it numbs,

For it brings the time nearer when Santa Claus comes.

    British Customs and Traditions
I'd like to tell you about British customs and traditions.
It's not a secret that in Britain traditions play a very important role. They are proud of their traditions. The ravens are one of the most famous sights at the Tower of London. They have lived in the Tower for more than 900 years. There is a legend that if the ravens leave the Tower of London, England will fall.

In fact, the birds have never left the Tower. The ravens are black, they have their names. When one raven dies,  another raven takes its place.
Another English custom is Guy Fawkes' Day. On that day children buy fireworks and burn the guy on their bonfire.. The guy is the figure like a scarecrow. People watch fireworks and some people go to parties in the evening.
That's all I wanted to say. Thank you for listening.

    14/11/17 Grammar to learn

Future Simple tense/ to be going to

Отличие be going to от Future Simple.

Be going to означает ‘собираться сделать что-то’ (план) , тогда как глаголы во Future Simple указывают на спонтанность / сиюминутность решения. Сравните:
Polly's going to visit her granny on Sunday.  – Полли собирается навестить бабушку в воскресенье.
MOTHER: Polly, you granny's just phoned. She feels bad.
POLLY: OK, I will visit her on Sunday.

    We Speak about Great Britain

I'd like to tell you about Great Britain.
The Romans went to England many years ago. They built a town on the River Thames. The name of the town was Londinium.
At the beginning of the 11th century England was already a great country and London was a big important city.In 1066 William the Conqueror went to England from Normandy in France. He became king of England. He lived in London but was afraid of the English. So, he built the White tower to live in it. Now it is the most beautiful part of the Tower of London. The Tower of London was a fortress, a palace, a prison and the King's zoo. Now it is a museum. It's not a secret that there are always black ravens in it.
Everybody knows  that the Great Fire of London started on the 2nd of September 1666. It burnt for four days and destroyed 80 % (per cent) of the city. After the Great Fire people built a new city.
Now London is the capital of Great Britain. It is the biggest city in Britain. It is a political, cultural and business center. There are a lot of theatres, cinemas, museums, parks and squares in it.
That's all I wanted to say. Thank you for listening.

Card 9 We speak about the USA

Everybody knows that America is the name of the country - the USA and the name of the two continents - North America and South America.
It's not a secret that Christopher Columbus discovered America in 1492. People called it the New World. He was a seaman. He was born in Italy but lived in Spain for a long time. He made some voyages to the New World.
In 1620 a group of people left England for the New World. They sailed on board the ship the "Mayflower". There were 74 men and 28 women on the "Mayflower". They wanted to start a new life there. They set up a colony and called it "New England".
The first president of the USA was George Washington.
Now there are 50 states. The capital of the USA is Washington DC.
There are some official national symbols of the USA. The first one is the American flag. It is red, blue and white. It has 50 stars and 13 stripes on it. The second one is the eagle. The third one is the national anthem (гимн).
Every state has its own flag, symbol and song.

                                     Russian Traditions
I'd like to tell you about Russian traditions.
In fact, every nation and every country has its own traditions and customs.
It's not a secret that people in Russia have their own special traditions. One of them is Maslenitsa - the holiday, which lasts for a week, to say goodbye to winter.
    http://51hotkovo.detkin-club.ru/events/149314

People celebrate it at the end of February or at the beginning of March. During this holiday they celebrate the end of winter and the beginning of spring. In old times people usually cooked pancakes, had fires, burnt straw figures of winter, they sang songs and danced. Now during "Maslenitsa week" people always cook pancakes. They invite their friends, their nearest and dearest, to see each other and eat pancakes with sour cream, fish, caviar or butter, sugar, honey.
Though different countries have different traditions and holidays people all over the world know some of them. They are - Easter, Christmas and New Year.
I like new Year best of all. We decorate a New Year tree . Then we meet our relatives and friends and cook a lot of tasty food. Parents give me presents. We are very happy on that day.
That's all I wanted to say. Thank you for listening.

Present Simple vs Present Progressive (Continuous)

    Grammar Rule

    Examples

    play tennis every Sunday.
    I’m playing hockey now.
    She eats fruit every day.
    She’s eating an apple now.

    Remember!

We use the present simple to talk about routines – what you do every day or every week. We use the present continuous to talk about things you are doing now.
    watch cartoons every day.
    I’m watching a film now.

    Be careful!

For the present simple, add ‘s’ or ‘es’ for he/she/it. Make the negative with ‘don’t’ or ‘doesn’t’. For the present continuous, use the verb ‘to be’ and ‘-ing’. Add ‘not’ to make the negative.
My dad makes dinner every evening. He doesn’t make lunch.
We are studying English now. We aren’t studying maths.

    We say... We don’t say...

I wake up every morning at 7:00. (NOT I am waking up every morning at 7:00.)
She is talking on the phone now. (NOT She talks on the phone now.)
They aren’t reading a book now. (NOT They don’t reading a book now.)
