The Press in Britain and Elsewhere for the 8 Graders with love :)

         It's common knowledge that newspapers report the news. In addition newspapers give useful information, such as weather reports, television programmes, travel and fashion etc. together with other means of communication such as radio, television, magazines and the internet, newspapers form  the media.   Printed   forms of the media are called "the press".



          Newspapers treat the news in two different ways. They can take the serious or the popular approach. Many newspapers combine these approaches, but in the UK newspapers tend to be either one thing or the other. Both serious and popular newspapers can be divided into daily or weekly, morning or evening, and local, national or international.
          The Britiah are the greatest newspaper readers in the world, they read everywhere. A symbol of the British Press is Fleet Street. It is a street in London that used to be home of most British newspapers.
          British daily papers are published from Monday to Saturday. The serious or quality papers are ..., ..., ... . Compared with Russian papers, British quality papers are very thick. they usually consist of separate sections such as Politics, Finances, Business etc.
         Popular papers or tabloids, such as ..., ...., ..., make a much easier reading.
         The Sunday papers are not Sunday editions of the daily papers but separate weekly editions coming out on Sundays. In addition to the news they provide interesting information on arts, gardening etc. Some of them  have a very high reputation and are very popular, ex:  .... .
